The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) has confirmed that one of its service vehicles was involved in a road traffic incident with two children who were riding a bicycle in Cornwall Mountain, Westmoreland, on Tuesday, December 16.

In a statement, the JDF said members of the force, along with residents of the community, provided immediate emergency assistance at the scene. The children were taken to a nearby medical facility for assessment and treatment.

The JDF said additional medical support was provided through its Health Services Corps and Air Wing, which facilitated an airlift for one of the injured children to receive further medical care.

The incident was reported at the Savanna la Mar Police Station on the same day.

According to the JDF, the matter is being investigated internally in keeping with standard operating procedures, while the Jamaica Constabulary Force is also conducting its own probe. The JDF said it is fully cooperating with the police investigation.

The military reiterated its commitment to professionalism, safety and accountability in carrying out its duties and urged all road users to obey traffic laws and exercise extra caution, especially in areas where children and other vulnerable road users are present.
