Kizzy wants to give her child the best life
Kizzy, partner of fellow dancehall artiste KipRich, said as a first-time expecting mom, and daughter of a single parent household, she hopes to give her unborn child a life she never had.
"Life was very hard for me, so my mother had nutten to show us but tough love. It took maturity to show that she love wi fi true, she just neva have it. When you younger, you just feel like you not getting the attention or the love; but she couldn't stop to attend to us because she affi deh all over di place a wash people clothes and try fi provide, if a only di two pound a rice fi di meal fi di night. She had to be hunting because it was just her," Kizzy told THE STAR.
Looking back, she said it strengthened her appreciation for her mom because despite the struggles, she always ensured that their basic needs were satisfied. However, Kizzy said she too had to "hustle" to assist the family. Nevertheless, she remained humble and thankful.
"I've learnt a lot based on how I was brought up and because of that, I'm going to ensure that my child does not go through anything that I went through. I know what it's like, I've been in it, when you're in need and yuh madda can't provide...while living in a fix up fowl coop," said the Dweet artiste who lost her father as a toddler.
Kizzy and KipRich broke the news of the pregnancy on Christmas Day, and received several holiday cheers and well wishes. Kizzy said she is not worried about the pregnancy.
"Sometimes mi all figet seh mi pregnant and a when mi feel di baby move mi memba. Suh mi nuh really have a lot of expectations because it feels very normal. Other than the first trimester stage, I'm doing fine now, I'm thriving; but I'm just expecting a healthy, bouncing baby boy that looks just like his father," she said.
She expressed contentment with expecting her first child at age 28, in a "stable" relationship that's rooted in love and genuine care.
"It's the right timing and, honestly, I'm happy I waited because a lot of these young men nowadays aren't as responsible. They don't really want to be a father, they just want to be able to say 'mi have a youth,'" she said. Kizzy described KipRich as a very patient and clean man.
"[He] cancel everything fi tek care a mi. When I was very sick in my first trimester and vomiting, Kippo walk behind me and clean up di face basin, anyweh mi vomit because sometimes when I do I had to just lay right there," she said. He has even showered me and everything else yuh can think of in the laundry and him neva yet complain."
Though this isn't KipRich's first child, he said Kizzy's humour and personality made it feel like a brand new experience.
"Being around her and seeing everything from the two red lines [on the pregnancy test] is just a whole different vibe for me. It's not my first child but it's my first time being around it so much. In prior [relationships], I'd be busy working, but she's everywhere I am, and being it's her first time too, and she was worried about it in the early stage, mi waah mek sure seh mi deh deh fi her fully," KipRich said. "Her personality also plays a major role because being wid her, it's just a different, fun vibe."
According to KipRich, he spotted the difference in how his body felt and saw the pregnancy signs in Kizzy before the test results. However, they both admitted that it was an emotional revelation that left them in tears.
The couple revealed on Sunday that they are expecting a baby girl.
